THE BOYZ are indisputable in action-packed ‘Maverick’ music video

The year has been going really well for powerhouse South Korean group THE BOYZ who bring raw fierceness in new music video of ‘Maverick’ from their third single album of the same name.  THE BOYZ, who made their debut in 2017, comprise of Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo and Eric.

On November 1, the music video for ‘Maverick’ was released which is enthralling.  Since the word ‘Maverick’ refers to a person who does not behave or think like everyone else, but who has independent, unusual opinions, with this concept in mind, THE BOYZ begin the video with heavy beat music with the members’ powerful dance moves. The members are being transported in a van to an unknown location while blindfolded and wearing electronic collars. They are seen dancing on an illuminated stage. The song narrates the message on how each member is confident about finding a special-self inside them. The members are seen leaving in what appear to be cars on a dark night. They are all inside an unfamiliar territory with an eerie organ tone playing in the background as the members try to fight for their lives perfectly in tune with the sinister concept.

The chorus and verse set the group apart from others even the lyrics go, “When everybody’s trying to be the same/ I exist as I am/ and Haknyeon’s A familiar path?/That’s so boring.”  The song has addictive bass and impactful and colorful rhythm with powerful vocals and choreography bringing together its core strength.

While THE BOYZ are known for exploring new genres, every comeback of the group hits harder than the previous one.  With addictive lyrics and experimental beats, the group has added another bop to their immaculate discography. The pop punk aesthetic blended with hip-hop genre makes ‘Maverick’ anthemic.

‘Maverick’ marks THE BOYZ’ first release since the EP Thrill-ing, released in August. The new EP features two other songs titled ‘Hypnotized’ and ‘Russian Roulette’. The album comes in two versions, Doom and Mood that also serve as the two concepts of the album.

Earlier this year, THE BOYZ participated in variety show Kingdom: Legendary War, in April 2021.
