Bombay High Court quashes 2010 FIR against Shekhar Suman and Bharti Singh over comedy show remarks

The Bombay High Court has quashed a 2010 FIR registered against actor Shekhar Suman and comedian Bharti Singh over alleged remarks made during a television comedy show, ruling that no offence of hurting religious sentiments was established.

The case was registered at Pydhonie Police Station under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings, along with Section 34, which relates to common intention. A representative of the Raza Academy had filed the complaint following an episode of Comedy Circus Ka Jadoo that aired in November 2010.

Justice Amit Borkar allowed separate petitions filed by Shekhar Suman and Bharti Singh seeking cancellation of the FIR and all related proceedings. While delivering the order, the court observed that the television programme was meant for light entertainment and should be viewed in the proper context.

The High Court stated that a comedy show cannot be judged in the same way as a serious speech, religious discourse, or political statement. It noted that performances in such formats should be considered as a whole instead of isolating a few words or expressions.

The court further clarified that for an offence under Section 295-A to be made out, there must be both deliberate and malicious intent to insult religious sentiments. According to the bench, both conditions are necessary, and if either one is missing, the offence is not complete.

After reviewing the available material, the court found no evidence to suggest that either Shekhar Suman or Bharti Singh had any intention to insult any religion. It also said that merely because some viewers may have felt offended would not be enough to justify criminal prosecution.

The bench also considered the specific roles of the two artists. It noted that Shekhar Suman was serving as a judge on the show, while Bharti Singh was performing as part of a scripted comic act. There was no material indicating any shared plan or common intention between them.

Additionally, the High Court pointed out that the prosecution had failed to obtain prior sanction under Section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a mandatory requirement for prosecuting offences under Section 295-A.

Rejecting the State’s argument that the matter should proceed to trial, the court held that a trial cannot replace the need for a legally valid case. It concluded that continuing criminal proceedings in the absence of required ingredients would amount to misuse of the legal process.

With this ruling, the FIR and all consequential proceedings against Shekhar Suman and Bharti Singh have been set aside.

Bombay High Court dismisses PIL seeking change in Raja Shivaji’s title

The Bombay High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) that sought a stay on the theatrical release of the Marathi-Hindi bilingual film Raja Shivaji, clearing the way for the movie’s scheduled release on May 1, 2026. The petition had objected to the omission of the honorific “Chhatrapati” from the film’s title and claimed it was disrespectful to the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The plea was filed by NGO Sree Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Foundation, which argued that leaving out the title “Chhatrapati” hurt the sentiments of followers of the iconic Maratha ruler. The petitioner requested the court to direct the makers to rename the film Chhatrapati Raja Shivaji and also sought restrictions on the release, screening, and public exhibition of the movie until changes were made.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad rejected the petition, observing that the matter did not involve any real public cause. The court also noted the timing of the plea, pointing out that it was filed only two days before the film’s release.

According to the bench, there was nothing in the title Raja Shivaji that could be considered insulting or derogatory to the status of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The judges stated that the petition appeared to be motivated rather than filed in genuine public interest.

The respondents in the case included the Union of India, the State of Maharashtra, the Central Board of Film Certification, actor-director Riteish Deshmukh, producers Jyoti Deshpande, Genelia Deshmukh, and Mumbai Film Company Pvt Ltd.

During the hearing, counsel representing the film’s producers informed the court that the story focuses on Shivaji Maharaj’s life before his coronation in 1674, when he officially received the title of “Chhatrapati.” It was also stated that a disclaimer explaining this context had already been included in the film and approved by the CBFC.

The producers further submitted that the project had been publicly announced in February 2024, while its release date was declared in 2025, meaning the title had long been in the public domain.

In its final remarks, the High Court said public interest litigation was meant to amplify genuine public concerns, and not be misused for such last-minute objections.

Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar controversy: Santosh Kumar RS agrees to stay silent on Aditya Dhar amid court proceedings

The ongoing controversy surrounding Dhurandhar The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, has taken a fresh turn, with filmmaker Santosh Kumar RS agreeing to refrain from making any further public remarks against director Aditya Dhar.

As per reports, the matter came up before the Bombay High Court, where Santosh Kumar’s legal representative conveyed that the filmmaker would avoid speaking about the dispute in public going forward. Instead, he would rely on appropriate legal channels to address his concerns. It was also suggested on his behalf that earlier comments were not specifically aimed at Aditya Dhar. The court, however, noted that making such an assurance enforceable in a broader sense could be challenging but decided to formally record Kumar’s commitment to avoid any further statements that could be seen as defamatory.

On the other side, Aditya Dhar’s legal team pushed for a public apology over the earlier allegations. His counsel argued that publicly accusing someone of wrongdoing could have serious implications and maintained that an apology would be appropriate under the circumstances. However, Kumar’s side did not agree to this, stating that he believes he has sufficient grounds to support his claims and therefore would not apologise at this stage.

With this, the court chose to close the interim plea while clearly stating that no further controversial or potentially damaging remarks should be made by Santosh Kumar in the future.

The dispute traces back to claims made by Kumar, who alleged that Dhurandhar was based on a script he had previously registered under the title D Saheb. Following these accusations, Aditya Dhar had issued a legal notice asking for the statements to be withdrawn. When there was no response, the director approached the court, stating that the claims were unfounded and were affecting his professional reputation.

Earlier this month, the court had already instructed Kumar to refrain from repeating such allegations publicly until further hearings in the matter.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Dhurandhar The Revenge has performed strongly at the box office and continues to remain in the spotlight, driven by audience interest and discussions around the film.

Several cinemas yet to open May 1 bookings; exhibitors face ‘agni pariksha’ as they struggle to accommodate Raja Shivaji, Ek Din, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Patriot, KD - The Devil and holdover releases

Issues over screen-sharing have become extremely common now, and this week, the situation has intensified significantly. This is because several major films in different languages are releasing simultaneously, leaving programmers at their wits’ end while allocating the desired number of shows to each of them.

As expected, with less than 24 hours to go for the releases, the issues are yet to be sorted. In Mumbai, theatres like Regal, MovieTime Suburbia, PVR Le Reve, Roxy, Eros IMAX, Kasturba and Nazrana hadn’t opened bookings for May 1, as of 8:00 am on April 30. Surprisingly, even a three-screen multiplex like Sterling hadn’t opened plans for the coming week. Meanwhile, advance booking is yet to open in a full-fledged manner in cinemas like Devgn CineX Mulund, Devgn CineX Thane, Topiwala, MovieTime Malad, Tilak and Rajhans Ghatkopar.

An exhibition source told Bollywood Hungama, “This is like agni pariksha for us. We need to allot shows to Raja Shivaji (releasing in Hindi and Marathi), Ek Din (Hindi), The Devil Wears Prada 2 (English), Patriot (Malayalam), Kara (Tamil), Dhabkaaro (Gujarati), KD - The Devil (Kannada) etc. In a city like Mumbai, where there’s an audience for films in various languages, the programming team is working dedicatedly and in constant touch with distributors to ensure that the films get sufficient showcasing.”

Meanwhile, the holdover releases like Michael and Bhooth Bangla continue to do well and also need to be accommodated. As per sources, Patriot and KD - The Devil will also have Hindi dubbed release, but as of now, its booking hasn’t opened anywhere in the country, probably due to show sharing challenges.

Raja Shivaji’s show requirements

The biggest release of the week in the Hindi-speaking market is Raja Shivaji, and its distributors, Jio Studios, have gone all out to ensure that it gets a wide release. As per the requirement list sent by the studio, exhibitors have been asked to allot all shows to the film in single-screen cinemas. In 2-screen theatres, they have asked for 7 shows, while 10 shows need to be played in 3-screen multiplexes. In cinema halls with 4 screens, 14 shows of Raja Shivaji need to be played. As for cinemas with 5 screens and above, 16 shows of the film will be held daily. This number includes both the Hindi and Marathi versions.

Also, the theatres have been asked to play Raja Shivaji in 4DX and EPIQ premium formats.

Bountiful weekend loading

The challenges notwithstanding, exhibitors are thrilled as most films are expected to pull in considerable number of audiences. The Devil Wears Prada 2 can emerge as the surprise of the week as the advances are much better than expected. Patriot, Kara and KD - The Devil will open with a bang in their respective markets, while Raja Shivaji is all set to open very well in Maharashtra.

Ranveer Singh starrer Pralay back on track? Insider says zombie thriller begins shooting in August 2026

Ranveer Singh starrer upcoming film Pralay continues to generate strong buzz, especially after recent speculation suggested the project had run into difficulties. However, fresh developments indicate that the much-talked-about zombie thriller remains firmly on schedule, with shooting expected to begin in August 2026.

The actor, who is coming off the successful run of the Dhurandhar franchise, had earlier committed to filmmaker Jai Mehta’s next directorial venture. In recent weeks, reports claimed that the film was facing a roadblock due to alleged creative differences between Ranveer Singh and the director. Those rumours have now been denied by a source associated with the production.

An insider connected to the project stated, “Reports suggesting any uncertainty around Pralay are completely baseless. Ranveer and Jai have been in continuous discussions and have firmly locked the script. The project has already moved into pre-production, with the entire team actively gearing up to create a never-before-witnessed gigantic spectacle out of Indian cinema. As it stands, Pralay is on track to go on floors by August 2026.”

If the latest update is accurate, the film has now entered an important pre-production phase, which likely includes location scouting, concept design, action planning, VFX preparation, and casting formalities.

Pralay is being described as a large-scale post-apocalyptic action thriller set in a dystopian world. The film is also expected to explore the zombie genre in a way not commonly seen in mainstream Hindi cinema. While international audiences have seen several successful zombie-based franchises, the genre remains relatively untapped at this scale in Bollywood.

Director Jai Mehta, known for his work in the web space, has reportedly been developing the project since last year. The screenplay has been written by Jai Mehta along with Lootere writer Vishal Kapoor.

The film is being produced by Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films and Ranveer Singh’s Maa Kasam Films, in collaboration with Applause Entertainment. Industry reports suggest the makers are planning the film on a massive scale, with a budget estimated at around Rs. 300 crores, making it one of the more expensive Hindi productions currently in development.

Ranveer Singh is also said to be particularly excited about stepping into a fresh genre and experimenting with a new on-screen look for the project. At present, the actor has not officially announced any other film, though discussions around another collaboration with Aditya Dhar have also surfaced.

With pre-production underway and the makers reportedly targeting an August 2026 start date, Pralay could emerge as one of the most ambitious genre films in Ranveer Singh’s career.

Raj Kundra says ‘justice delayed is justice denied’ as court arguments conclude in ongoing pornography case

Businessman Raj Kundra has issued a fresh public statement amid the ongoing legal proceedings linked to the 2021 pornography case, stating that arguments on his behalf have now concluded in the lower court. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kundra said his advocate Prashant Patil had completed submissions after what he described as four years of hearings.

In his post, Kundra expressed frustration over the length of the process and the impact it has had on his personal and professional life. He wrote, “Four long years in the lower court in the ongoing pornography case. Today, my advocate Prashant Patil concluded our arguments. I stand by the truth if I’m guilty, punish me. If not, grant me a discharge, my freedom, and the respect taken away by relentless media trials. Justice delayed is justice denied. #Justice.”

Four long years in the lower court in the ongoing pornography case. Today, my advocate Prashant Patil concluded our arguments. I stand by the truth if I’m guilty, punish me. If not, grant me a discharge, my freedom, and the respect taken away by relentless media trials. Justice… — Raj Kundra (@onlyrajkundra) April 29, 2026

The case dates back to July 2021, when Raj Kundra was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch in connection with allegations related to the creation and distribution of pornographic content through mobile applications. Investigators had alleged that certain apps were being used to stream or circulate explicit material. Kundra denied wrongdoing at the time and maintained that the content in question did not fall under the category of pornography as alleged by authorities.

He was later granted bail by a Mumbai court after spending nearly two months in judicial custody. Since then, proceedings in the matter have continued, with multiple hearings taking place over the last several years.

In his latest remarks, Kundra indicated that prolonged legal uncertainty can affect not only the accused but also their families, careers, and public standing. While criticising delays, he also stated that he continues to have faith in the judicial system and said he is ready to accept the outcome of the case.

Kundra has previously spoken about media coverage surrounding the matter, especially reports that also mentioned his wife, actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra. Earlier, he had objected to what he described as speculative and sensational narratives, saying the matter should be dealt with as a legal issue rather than public entertainment.

The businessman has consistently maintained that his family supported him through the legal process. His latest statement appears to underline his demand for closure, either through conviction if guilt is established or discharge if the court finds no basis to proceed.

At present, the court is expected to consider the arguments placed before it and pass further orders in due course. No final verdict has been announced yet. The case continues to draw attention given the public profile of those involved, while the legal process remains ongoing.

Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai will now release on June 5, 2026

Fans of the classic David Dhawan brand of cinema will have to wait just a little longer. The much-anticipated romantic comedy, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, has officially shifted its theatrical release. Originally slated for May 22, 2026, the film is now set to premiere on June 5, 2026.

A Strategic Shift The rescheduling comes amidst a significant shake-up in the Indian film calendar. The move follows the recent announcement from the makers of the Yash-starrer Toxic, who confirmed that their high-octane actioner would no longer be releasing on its June 4 slot. This vacancy in the first week of June provided a prime window for Tips Films to position their family entertainer for a solo-led weekend.

Produced by Ramesh Taurani under the Tips Films banner (in association with Maximilian Films UK), the movie marks another collaboration between the father-son duo of director David Dhawan and star Varun Dhawan.

The newly released poster showcases a vibrant, chaotic energy synonymous with David Dhawan’s style. It features Varun Dhawan in a quirky pose atop twin baby strollers, flanked by leading ladies Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. The poster also gives a glimpse of a stellar supporting cast, including Maniesh Paul, Mouni Roy, and veteran actors like Jimmy Sheirgill and Rakesh Bedi, hinting at a comedy of errors. What to Expect Positioned as a "vibrant rom-com," Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is expected to be a high-energy entertainer featuring remixed 90s hits and the signature slapstick humor that defined the David Dhawan era.

With the massive success of their previous collaborations like Main Tera Hero and Coolie No. 1, trade analysts expect this June release to be a major draw for family audiences looking for light-hearted summer entertainment.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai arrives in cinemas worldwide on June 5, 2026.

Raja Shivaji sells 40,000 tickets in advance booking; Pune goes on overdrive as 7:00 am shows open due to huge demand

Two days ago, Bollywood Hungama reported that the ticket sales of The Devil Wears Prada 2 were very encouraging. Raja Shivaji releases on the same day as the Hollywood comedy drama and this film, too, seems all set for a flying start, especially in its Marathi version.

According to data accessed by Bollywood Hungama, Raja Shivaji had sold more than 40,000 tickets as of 8:00 am on April 29. By 4:30 pm on April 28, PVR Inox sold 9,800 tickets for the historical entertainer’s Marathi version. Cinepolis sold 3,000 tickets, MovieMax saw sales of 2,400, while Miraj Cinemas sold more than 4,100 tickets.

The Marathi version has far more appeal due to its local flavour, ensemble cast, and the correct release period. Raja Shivaji releases on May 1, which is Maharashtra Day. Hence, the film will enjoy a three-day weekend in the state. Several films have been made on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Marathi, but Raja Shivaji seems like the grandest of them all. This has further encouraged audiences to buy tickets.

A look at the ticketing websites indicates that several shows in Maharashtra are fast-filling. Mumbai is performing very well, but the surprise is Pune, where Raja Shivaji is on an overdrive. Several theatres in this city will play the film from 7:00 am, looking at the demand. Some Mumbai cinemas have also followed suit, although they are yet to catch up like their Pune counterparts.

In short, at present, Pune is the highest performing centre in India and is even giving a tough competition to Mumbai, which is a rare phenomenon. City Pride, which has 7 cinemas in Pune and E-Square, which has 3 properties in Pune and 1 in Solapur, will emerge among the top chains in terms of ticket sales for Raja Shivaji. Both chains are expected to sell more than 20,000 tickets by April 30. The advance booking in Maharashtra towns like Nashik, Latur, Solapur, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar etc. is also encouraging.

With such ticket sales, a healthy first-day collection is guaranteed. However, as aforementioned, a bulk of the advance sales have come for the Marathi version. Bookings for the Hindi version have yet to begin in a full-fledged manner across the country and it remains to be seen if it receives the same response as the Marathi version.

Raja Shivaji stars Riteish Deshmukh in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and he's joined by Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Bhagyashree, Sachin Khedekar, Amole Gupte, Jitendra Joshi and others. It is produced by Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh’s Mumbai Film Company and Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios.

SCOOP: Atlee to use body double of Deepika Padukone for key action sequences of Allu Arjun's Raka

Deepika Padukone recently took to social media to announce that she is expecting her second child with husband Ranveer Singh, sparking a wave of joy and excitement across the industry. However, the development also led to murmurs in trade circles, as Deepika reportedly still has around 50 days of shoot left for Atlee’s much-awaited Raka, headlined by Allu Arjun. Many assumed that the filmmaker would be concerned by the unexpected turn of events, given the scale and schedule of the project.

But we have exclusively learnt that Atlee has been more than just supportive towards Deepika Padukone. "Atlee was overjoyed when he heard the news of Deepika's pregnancy. Instead of panicking on his shoot schedule, he sat down with his team and came up with a plan B. Most of the key action sequences featuring Deepika Padukone will now be done using her body double. The actress has already given some close up sequences and the same will be merged using VFX for the final print," a source close to the production shared with Bollywood Hungama.

The film features an action packed role for Deepika, and the makers don't want to risk by pushing her to perform all those stunts. "Deepika has a stellar entry, as also a big action moment with Allu Arjun. All of those will now be done by a double, whereas Deepika will continue to shoot the dramatic moments. Her role stays intact, with no deletion what so ever. She is a key protagonist of Raka, and nothing changes due to pregnancy."

The team of King too has fast tracked the shoots with Deepika Padukone to ensure that all the action and song moments are done in the early stages, without wanting her to push too much. All in all, the actress is on a roll, unstoppable and slaying like a boss.

Richa Chadha to head crime thriller series, set to play detective

Karnataka HC accepts Ranveer Singh’s unconditional apology in Kantara mimicry case

The Karnataka High Court has accepted Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s unconditional apology in the controversy linked to his alleged mimicry of a character from Kantara: Chapter 1 during a public event last year. The court orally indicated that it is likely to dispose of the matter after taking note of the revised affidavit filed by the actor.

The case was heard before Justice M. Nagaprasanna, where senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, appearing for Ranveer Singh, informed the court that a fresh affidavit had been submitted without any conditions attached. According to the counsel, the actor had also undertaken to visit the concerned temple as a mark of respect.

The controversy began after an FIR was registered against Singh over remarks made during the 56th International Film Festival of India held in Goa. During the event, the actor was accused of mimicking a character associated with Kantara: Chapter 1 and allegedly referring to the Chamundeshwari temple deity in an objectionable manner. The complaint claimed that the remarks hurt religious sentiments and offended a deeply held belief system.

During the hearing, complainant Prashant Methel reportedly told the court that the issue was not just a legal dispute but one involving faith and community sentiment. Responding to this, the court observed that this was one reason it had not stayed the FIR earlier.

The bench also indicated that while closing the case, it may record Singh’s commitment to visit the temple within the next four weeks. The complainant further argued that public figures should treat such matters seriously and that celebrities should not take faith-related sensitivities lightly.

The court noted that it would issue an order while recording the contents of the affidavit. It also remarked that a cautionary observation may be made in the matter.

Earlier this month, Ranveer Singh had informed the court that he was willing to coordinate with the complainant regarding the language of his apology after concerns were raised that his previous affidavit did not reflect genuine remorse. The actor had approached the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR filed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to promoting disharmony and hurting religious feelings.

With the court now taking note of the unconditional apology, the matter appears to be heading toward closure.

Riteish Deshmukh SLAMS Bageshwar Baba over Shivaji Maharaj comment: “Unacceptable and infuriating”

Actor Riteish Deshmukh has strongly reacted to controversial remarks made by spiritual leader Bageshwar Baba about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The statement triggered backlash online, with many expressing anger over the portrayal of the revered Maratha warrior king. Riteish, who is set to portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his upcoming historical film Raja Shivaji, also joined the criticism and shared a powerful response on social media.

The controversy began after Bageshwar Baba claimed in a speech that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had grown tired of fighting wars and once placed his crown before Ramdas Swami, asking him to take charge of the kingdom while he rested. The remarks were widely criticised by many who felt they misrepresented history and undermined Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy.

Responding to the issue, Riteish took to X, formerly Twitter, and posted a message in Marathi. Expressing his views as a devotee and admirer of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the actor strongly objected to what he described as distorted statements.

Translated into English, Riteish wrote that when someone spreads false and twisted claims about a beloved figure like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, it is unacceptable and deeply angering for every Shiv-bhakt and Shiv-premi. He added that attempts to diminish such a towering legacy would never succeed.

He further stated that just as the Sahyadri mountain ranges have stood strong for millions of years, the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would continue to inspire generations for crores of years to come. He described the Maratha ruler as the pride of the Kshatriya lineage, the Lord of the Throne, and the Emperor of Emperors.

— Riteish Deshmukh (@Riteishd) April 26, 2026

Meanwhile, the actor is preparing for the release of Raja Shivaji, one of the most anticipated historical dramas of the year. In the film, Riteish essays the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The project is backed by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under the Mumbai Film Company banner and presented by Jio Studios.

Scheduled to release in theatres on May 1, Raja Shivaji will focus on the early life of the legendary ruler, tracing his dream of Swarajya and his resistance against powerful empires. The film also features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Bhagyashree, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Boman Irani.

Dug Dug trailer out: Ritwik Pareek’s debut explores faith, mystery and a "wish-granting" bike

A lost bike, a found belief system. The trailer of debutant filmmaker Ritwik Pareek’s Dug Dug offers a first glimpse into the film’s whimsical world— a comedy-mystery satire that playfully navigates faith, magic and logic. The trailer was unveiled by its four executive producers, Anurag Kashyap, Nikkhil Advani, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vasan Bala, who have come together to present the film.

“God only knows what games he plays,” opens Dug Dug, as a character recounts the death of a villager—setting the tone for what follows. The mystery deepens when the bike the man was riding goes missing from a police station, only to reappear at the exact spot where he died.

Inspired by true events, Dug Dug traces a bizarre phenomenon in a village where a deceased man’s motorbike is believed to grant wishes—provided devotees pray to it and offer alcohol. As word spreads and prayers begin to be “answered,” belief spirals into a full-blown, commercialised religion.

The trailer establishes the film’s whimsical, magical tone, unfolding through trippy, fantastical visuals shot by DOP Aditya S. Kumar, which complement Ritwik Pareek’s script. The film is slated to hit Indian screens on May 8.

Dug Dug is produced by Bottle Rocket Pictures, led by Prerna Pareek and Ritwik Pareek, and will be released in Indian theatres in association with Ranjan Singh’s Flip Films.

Shanaya Kapoor-Adarsh Gourav starrer Tu Yaa Main trends in 12 countries on Netflix Top 10

Actor Shanaya Kapoor, who made an impressive debut with Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan, followed it up with yet another standout performance this year—this time in a role vastly different from her first. Teaming up with director Bejoy Nambiar for Tu Yaa Main opposite Adarsh Gourav, Shanaya earned widespread appreciation for her portrayal of influencer Avnee, with audiences particularly praising her screen presence, performance range, and crackling chemistry with Adarsh.

One of her dialogues from the film—“Tu yedi ho gayi kya, bachi?”—has especially struck a chord online, quickly turning into a fan-favourite pop culture moment and finding its way into memes, reels, and internet conversations.

Following its theatrical run, Tu Yaa Main premiered on Netflix a few days ago and has continued to build momentum ever since. The film has been trending strongly on the platform, even reaching the No. 1 spot in India, while also charting in several international markets. Clips featuring Shanaya’s scenes have been widely shared across social media, resonating with both pop culture audiences and cinema enthusiasts alike, and drawing consistently positive reactions.

Even two weeks after its streaming debut, Tu Yaa Main remains in the Top 10 films across 12 countries, with love for the film—and especially for its lead performances—only continuing to grow.

What stands out most, however, is Shanaya Kapoor’s unconventional script journey. From the romantic intensity of Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan to the edgy, contemporary world of Tu Yaa Main, her choices reflect a willingness to experiment rather than follow a predictable launch blueprint. In an industry often driven by safe debut vehicles and formulaic career moves, Shanaya appears to be carving her own lane—breaking the launch playbook and choosing the road less travelled.

Khalnayak Returns launch event: Sanjay Dutt CONFIRMS, "We are working on Vaastav 2"; makes an appeal to Rajkumar Hirani, "Raju, please make Munna Bhai 3!"

Actor-producer Sanjay Dutt, Aksha Kamboj, Executive Chairperson of Aspect Global (Aspect Entertainment), Subhash Ghai and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios announced Khalnayak Returns at an event in Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt revealed that he’ll be producing the second part of the cult 1993 film under his banner, Three Dimension Motion Pictures.

A journalist asked that besides Khalnayak, the other characters of the actor who have achieved legendary status are Raghu from Vaastav (1999) and Murli Prasad Sharma from Munna Bhai. Hence, the journalist enquired if sequels to these films could be made.

Sanjay Dutt replied, “We are working on Vaastav 2. As for Munna Bhai, you’ll have to ask Raju Hirani. Raju, please make Munna Bhai again!”

At one point during the event, Subhash Ghai narrated, “With Sanju, I first worked in Vidhaata (1982), in which he played the grandson of Dilip Kumar. He was forced into acting by his father (Sunil Dutt). He was like ‘Main kyun actor banu? Mujhe motorcycle chalani hai’! He was enjoying life. He didn’t know he would have to work so much as an actor. He was hardly 20 at that time. I observed him and felt ‘Yeh bechara phas gaya’! But somehow, he managed to work with Dilip saab. Slowly, he realized that he needed to take this career very seriously. That’s how he started getting better at this craft. I could see his progress with each passing film like Sadak (1991), Saajan (1993), etc. I was like ‘Yeh ab serious actor ban gaya hai’.”

Subhash Ghai continued, “When I started working on Khalnayak, the news spread in the industry. Many stars met with me and expressed interest in doing the film. But I told them, ‘I have an actor in mind already’. I invited Sanju and narrated the story. He told me, ‘Sir, I trust you. We are doing this film’.”

Sanjay Dutt raised laughs as he corrected, “Subhas ji, you never narrated the story. You just told me, ‘Yeh film tujhe karni hai’!”

Kartik Aaryan starrer Captain India locks Independence Day 2027 release

Kartik Aaryan’s long-awaited Captain India has officially locked its theatrical release date. The aviation-themed drama, which marks the actor’s first collaboration with filmmaker Shimit Amin, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 13, 2027, strategically timed for the Independence Day weekend.

Presented by T-Series and Baweja Studios in association with Midnight Chai Films Ltd., Captain India has been one of the more closely followed projects in Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming slate. The film had originally been announced in 2021, but there were multiple ups and downs the film underwent.

The project carries added interest because it marks the return of director Shimit Amin after a 17-year gap from feature filmmaking. Amin’s filmography may be compact, but it has earned a loyal following over the years. He made his directorial debut with the gritty crime drama Ab Tak Chhappan (2004), followed it up with the widely loved sports drama Chak De! India (2007), and later directed Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009), which went on to gain a strong cult following over time.

#BreakingNews... KARTIK AARYAN - SHIMIT AMIN FILM 'CAPTAIN INDIA' LOCKS RELEASE DATE... #CaptainIndia – which marks the first collaboration of #KartikAaryan and director #ShimitAmin – will release on 13 August 2027 [#IndependenceDay, weekend].#CaptainIndia is presented by… pic.twitter.com/iKdvs9P3n4 — taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) April 23, 2026

According to industry reports, Captain India has completed location recce and is expected to go on floors in the second quarter of 2026. The film is reportedly planned to be shot across India and Morocco, indicating a large-scale production design suited to its action-thriller setup.

The film is written and produced by Harman Baweja. While plot details remain under wraps, previous reports have suggested that the story is inspired by true events and revolves around a major rescue mission, with Kartik Aaryan reportedly playing a pilot.

Interestingly, when Captain India was first announced in 2021, filmmaker Hansal Mehta had been attached to direct the project. With Shimit Amin now helming the film, the project has undergone a significant creative shift since its original launch.

For Kartik Aaryan, Captain India adds another major title to an increasingly packed lineup. The actor is also associated with an untitled musical saga directed by Anurag Basu, expected in the second half of 2026, while he is currently working on Naagzilla, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba.

The Independence Day weekend release slot has traditionally been a lucrative period for Hindi cinema, and Captain India now positions itself as a potentially big-ticket patriotic entertainer in 2027. The title itself, combined with the aviation backdrop and real-event inspiration, suggests that the film may aim for a mix of action, emotion and large-scale spectacle.

For audiences, however, one of the biggest draws will likely be the pairing of Kartik Aaryan with Shimit Amin. With production expected to begin next year and a prime festive-weekend release now secured, Captain India has officially moved from speculation to active countdown mode.

Aamir Khan suggested Japan as shooting location for Ek Din? Here’s what we know

Aamir Khan Productions’ upcoming film Ek Din has been generating interest ahead of its theatrical release, with its recently unveiled trailer and songs drawing attention for both their emotional tone and visually striking backdrop. The romantic drama, starring Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan, has been shot extensively in Japan, and new details suggest that the decision to film there came from Aamir Khan himself.

According to an independent industry source, “While Ek Din has been extensively shot in Japan, it was mainly Aamir Khan’s idea to film it amidst the country’s scenic beauty. Having had an amazing experience with Japan through his films 3 Idiots and Dangal, which were released there, he wanted this time to capture the nation’s mesmerising landscapes and natural beauty.”

The Japanese locations have already become a talking point among viewers, with the trailer showcasing serene cityscapes, scenic countryside visuals and a softer aesthetic that complements the film’s romantic narrative. The songs released so far have also highlighted the film’s picturesque setting, adding to audience curiosity about the story.

Ek Din also marks the reunion of Aamir Khan with filmmaker Mansoor Khan after a long gap, reviving one of Hindi cinema’s most noted creative collaborations. The duo has previously been associated with films such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Akele Hum Akele Tum and Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. Their coming together again for a romantic project has naturally drawn attention from fans of their earlier work.

While Sunil Pandey directs the film, the association of Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan has added another layer of anticipation around the project. Many industry watchers are keen to see whether Ek Din captures the same emotional connect that audiences have associated with their earlier collaborations.

Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, the film stars Sai Pallavi alongside Junaid Khan in the lead roles. It is produced by Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan and Aparna Purohit.

With its overseas setting, fresh pairing and renewed collaboration between familiar names, Ek Din is shaping up to be one of the notable romantic releases on the upcoming calendar. The film is slated to release in theatres on May 1, 2026.

Anurag Kashyap, Nikkhil Advani, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vasan Bala-backed Dug Dug locks May 8 India release

Filmmaker Ritwik Pareek’s comedy mystery satire Dug Dug is set to release in Indian theatres on May 8 following a widely appreciated run across international film festivals. The film now has the backing of filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Nikkhil Advani, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vasan Bala, who have come on board as executive producers ahead of its India release.

Inspired by true events, Dug Dug follows a strange development in a village where a deceased man’s motorbike begins to be worshipped after locals believe it can grant wishes if devotees pray to it and offer alcohol. As reports of wishes being fulfilled spread, the belief gradually turns into a full-fledged commercialised religion.

The feature is produced by Bottle Rocket Pictures, led by Prerna Pareek and Ritwik Pareek, and will be released theatrically in India in association with Ranjan Singh’s Flip Films.

Speaking about the film, Anurag Kashyap said, “I was blown away by Dug Dug, its storytelling, cinematography and music. It was like a visual rave. I am stumped by the fact that this film hadn’t released theatrically. That got the four of us together along with Ranjan to release it. Fingers crossed it will receive the same love.”

Calling it one of the strongest debuts he has seen, Vikramaditya Motwane said, “Dug Dug is a fantastic and genuine Indian story about our society and our belief systems. Ritwik has told it with the perfect amount of irreverence and humour. I hope that the film can reach a wider audience.”

After its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2021, the film travelled to several international platforms including the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, MAMI Mumbai Film Festival and the International Film Festival of Kerala.

Nikkhil Advani described the film as “as authentic and a genuine Indian film as it can be,” adding that Ritwik Pareek’s storytelling approach stood out to him. “His flair for taking a simple story and telling it with a pragmatic and yet humorous take is what impressed me the most. I feel the audience will also love it as much as I did.”

Sharing his response to the film, Vasan Bala said, “There is nothing absurd in Ritwik’s Dug Dug, if anything it’s the world as he sees it not what he assumes it could be. I am totally captivated by its telling and visualization. Hope to see more of his splendour being unleashed in cinema.”

The film stars Altaf Khan, Gaurav Soni, Yogendra Singh and Durga Lal Saini in key roles.

Reflecting on the theatrical release, Ritwik Pareek said Dug Dug is meant to be experienced on the big screen. “We’ve waited a long time for this and finally it’s happening. Not just happening, but happening with Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Nikkhil Advani and Vasan Bala coming on board, filmmakers I have grown up watching and learning from, which makes it very special for me. I feel grateful and eternally thankful for all the support they are giving.”

Bombay High Court clears title of Vijay Varma starrer Matka King; concludes the dispute suit against Roy Kapur Productions

Roy Kapur Productions has secured relief from the Bombay High Court in a legal dispute surrounding the title of its web series Matka King. The development cleared the path for the Vijay Varma-led series to continue streaming on Prime Video.

According to details from the proceedings, a suit along with an interim application had been filed by Ms. Tanuja Bhagat, who objected to the use of the title Matka King for the upcoming show. She reportedly alleged infringement in relation to the title and sought urgent interim relief, including an injunction to restrain the makers from using the title and releasing the series.

The plaintiff had also claimed that the web series was based on the life and story of her late grandfather, Kalyanji Bhagat, whom she asserted to be the original “Matka King.” It was further alleged that the project had been produced without her authorisation.

The matter was heard on April 15, 2026, before Justice Sharmila Deshmukh at the Bombay High Court. Following submissions from both parties, the court reportedly declined to grant interim relief and did not restrain Roy Kapur Productions or the other defendants from proceeding with the release of the series.

At the next hearing on April 20, counsel appearing for the plaintiff informed the court that instructions had been received to withdraw the suit. The court subsequently disposed of the suit and interim application as withdrawn. With that, the legal challenge came to an end and Matka King continued streaming without interruption.

The series officially premiered on Prime Video on April 17, 2026. Directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule and created by Abhay Koranne, the eight-episode period drama is set in 1960s Bombay and explores the rise of Brij Bhatti, played by Vijay Varma, a cotton trader who turns the underground Matka gambling game into a nationwide phenomenon.

The show also stars Saie Tamhankar as Bhatti’s wife Barkha, Kritika Kamra as Gulrukh, and Gulshan Grover as merchant Laljibhai. The ensemble cast further includes Siddharth Jadhav, Jamie Lever, Girish Kulkarni and Bharat Jadhav.

Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Nagraj Manjule, Gargi Kulkarni, Ashish Aryan and Ashwini Sidwani under Roy Kapur Films, Matka King has been among the notable digital releases of the month, with the recent court ruling ensuring its run remains unaffected.

Pannu, best known for creating the critically acclaimed series Rocket Boys, has also developed the script for the project, which is scheduled to go on floors later in 2026. The yet untitled project will mark the first-ever horror film to be produced by Yash Raj Films in the last 50 years.

"Yash Raj Films have made films all across the genres except for horror. Come 2027, and the banner will step into the horror space with a feature film directed by Abhay Pannu. YRF CEO, Akshaye Widhani, facilitated this conversation and the collaboration, as he gave the confidence to Aditya Chopra to explore the uncharted domain of horror for the first time in the ever-so-evolving world of cinema," a source shared with Bollywood Hungama.

EXCLUSIVE: Vikram Bhatt reveals why Haunted - Ghosts Of The Past was renamed as Haunted - Echoes Of The Past: "You can't make a ghost film without believing in superstition"

Vikram Bhatt struck gold with Haunted 3D (2011). It’s a film that kick-started the 3D trend in Bollywood and became a sleeper hit at the box office. Hence, there are high expectations for the next film in this franchise, which is set to release on June 12. Interestingly, the film was earlier titled Haunted – Ghosts Of The Past. As per the motion poster that dropped yesterday to announce the release date, the film was renamed to Haunted – Echoes Of The Past. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to director Vikram Bhatt about this aspect. This was probably the director’s first interaction with the media after he faced a major personal turmoil in his life.

Vikram Bhatt told Bollywood Hungama, “The Haunted films are not just about ghosts. At its heart, it’s a poignant love story. Meanwhile, the film was getting delayed for some reason or another and also, I had to face incarceration. A very close friend of mine said that this is probably happening due to the word ‘Ghost’ in the title. He told me, ‘Title mein se Ghost ko hata do’. I told him, ‘Theek hai. Hata dete hai (smiles)’. That’s how we came up with Echoes Of The Past.”

He further remarked, “I never believed in such things until now. Also, you can’t make a ghost film without believing in superstition (laughs).”

The use of AI in the motion poster was criticized by a section of the audience. Vikram Bhatt clarified, “This is how motion posters are designed. But I can assure you that there’s absolutely no AI in the film at all.”

Lastly, when asked when the teaser of Haunted – Echoes Of The Past will be out, he revealed, “We plan to release it this month itself.”

Like Haunted, Haunted – Echoes Of The Past also stars Mimoh Chakraborty and this time, he’s joined by Chetna Pande, Shruti Prakash, Gaurav Bajpai, Praneet Bhatt and Hemant Pandey. It is produced by Anand Pandit and Rakesh Juneja and will be distributed worldwide by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures.

Shraddha Kapoor joins Aamir Khan in Rahul Mody’s Ashneer Grover biopic: Report

Actor Shraddha Kapoor is reportedly set to play Madhuri Jain Grover in the upcoming biopic on BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, which is expected to feature Aamir Khan in the lead role. Filmmaker Rahul Mody is developing the film.

According to a report by Mid-Day, Kapoor has been associated with the project since its early stages. A source told the publication that it had been decided early in development that she would play the female lead and had closely followed the screenplay’s evolution over time.

The film is reportedly based on Grover’s journey as an entrepreneur and the controversies surrounding his exit from BharatPe in 2022, when allegations surfaced that he and members of his family had misused company funds. Madhuri Jain Grover had served as the company’s Head of Controls before her termination the same year.

Mody has been working on the screenplay for nearly three years. The filmmaker previously contributed as a writer to Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018). He is also rumoured to be in a relationship with Kapoor.

Speculation about the project gained momentum recently after reports suggested that Aamir Khan is considering the Ashneer Grover biopic as his next film. Readers may recall that Bollywood Hungama exclusively reported Aamir has given a go ahead to doing Ashneer Grover biopic. Earlier, sources told us, "Aamir has read it and loved it; he is doing this film. It's in the pre-production stage. It's also very relatable as Ashneer is an extremely popular figure with today's audience."

At the same time, an official announcement from the makers is still awaited.

Ahead of Maa Behen, Suresh Triveni’s mother-daughter drama Razaa headed to NYIFF

Filmmaker Suresh Triveni, who is gearing up for his upcoming film Maa Behen and is known for his acclaimed work on Tumhari Sulu and Subedaar, is now backing the short film Razaa. Directed by Pooja Tolani and produced by Radhika Sawhney alongside Triveni, the film unfolds within the tense confines of a gynaecologist’s waiting room, where a mother and daughter grapple with a life-altering decision.

With Razaa earning a nomination at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), the film has further cemented its place on the global stage, something that aligns with Suresh Triveni’s consistent eye for meaningful storytelling. The film has enjoyed an impressive festival run with multiple international selections and wins, including recognition at prestigious platforms such as the Chicago South Asian Film Festival, Tasveer Film Festival, IDSFFK, and many more. The film has also picked up wins at the Yellowstone International Film Festival, further cementing its impact on the global stage.

Reinforcing his belief in strong, content-driven cinema, Suresh Triveni shared, “The first time I heard the film from Pooja, I was very sure I wanted to make it. I spoke to my producer partner Radhika, and we decided to produce it. It’s the second short film I have produced, and I’ll keep doing it till I can. Pooja being a writer too helps the film. We are very proud to be attached to the film. The accolades keep pouring, and the nomination at the New York Indian Film Festival has only made us prouder.”

Producer Radhika Sawhney echoed the sentiment, saying, “When Pooja narrated the script, I had no second thoughts. Women taking agency of their lives is a topic I feel very strongly about. Pooja is a very fine writer, and it was great to support her in bringing her story to life. Having Geetanjali Kulkarni was the icing on the cake. All the actors, in fact, brought such inspired performances to the film. While producing the film, we had to make sure we stayed authentic to the world of Razaa. There was much effort in choosing the cast, the locations, the art, and the visual tone of the film. Even the sound design was chosen with a lot of intent. I am very proud of Razaa and happy to be part of NYIFF.”

At its core, Razaa thrives on emotional contrast – Razaa’s striking detachment versus Sabeen’s deeply rooted fear and moral conflict. As tempers flare and silences stretch, the film dives into layered conversations around choice, control, and generational expectations.

Director Pooja Tolani offered insight into this dynamic, saying, “Mother-daughter relationships are often seen as loving and tender, but I find them deeply complex, caught between visceral love and constant judgement. Many mothers express love by telling their daughters what is right, as a way of protecting them. In that process, daughters inherit a deep sense of morality. For me, Razaa and Sabeen share a very real dynamic, where love is rarely expressed, but displeasure almost always is.”

The film, produced jointly by Rajshri Productions the house that Barjatya built into a byword for wholesome Indian storytelling and Mahaveer Jain, is understood to be a sweeping family entertainer, a genre the director has elevated and made entirely his own across a career spanning three decades.

At the heart of this highly anticipated project is a headline-grabbing pairing, National Award-winning actor Ayushmann Khurrana alongside the fast-rising Sharvari, whose star trajectory has made her one of the most sought-after talents in contemporary Bollywood. Their combination has already ignited fervent speculation among fans and trade observers alike.

Perhaps equally thrilling for music lovers is the confirmation that the film's soundtrack will be crafted by Himesh Reshammiya a maestro whose melodic sensibilities and anthemic compositions have defined multiple eras of Bollywood music. A Barjatya film with a Reshammiya score promises an auditory experience as emotionally resonant as its narrative.

Sources close to the production reveal that the announcement has been planned with characteristic Rajshri grandeur a formal, considered reveal that reflects the studio's deep respect for its audience. The title, rumoured to be Yeh Prem Mol Liya, when disclosed, is expected to signal the film's emotional register and thematic landscape, hallmarks that Barjatya has never compromised on across films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Vivah, and most recently, Uunchai.

Industry insiders are closely watching what Barjatya does with Ayushmann Khurrana an actor celebrated for his ability to anchor films in authentic, relatable humanity and whether this collaboration marks a new creative chapter for both artist and auteur. Sharvari's inclusion further signals a contemporary energy being woven into the fabric of a tradition-rooted cinematic universe.

Gaurav Gera praises Ranveer Singh's discipline and on-set involvement in Dhurandhar: The Revenge

Actor Gaurav Gera has spoken about his experience of working with Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, highlighting the latter’s approach to performance and presence on set.

In a recent interaction with India Today, Gera described Ranveer as someone deeply invested in his work. “Ranveer is a superstar for a reason, he is so good at what he does. He’s extremely organised and fully immersed in the character. He takes a keen interest,” he said, pointing to the actor’s focused preparation.

He also spoke about Ranveer’s involvement during scenes, even when he wasn’t required to be actively present. “He didn’t have to be there for cues in my scenes, which often happens on shoots. But he stayed back and remained present throughout. That’s just how he is—completely involved with the film,” Gera added.

Recalling a lighter moment, Gera mentioned their earlier ‘Chutki-shopkeeper’ act that recently resurfaced online amid the film’s buzz. He shared that Ranveer instantly recognised him on set. “He tapped my shoulder and said, ‘How are you, Chutki?’ I was surprised because I had a beard and looked quite different, but he still remembered,” he said.

Gera also noted a shift in Ranveer’s on-screen approach over time, especially while playing Hamza in the film. “He’s grown a lot as an actor. There’s a certain calmness in his performance here, which is very different from how people usually see him in public. That controlled energy comes across very strongly,” he explained.

Summing up, Gera described Ranveer as someone who can balance contrasting energies with ease, both on and off screen. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has completed a steady run in theatres and continues to hold its ground at the box office.

Jio Studios and Collective Studios’ Historyverse unveil teaser of Krishna at NAB 2026 in Las Vegas

Jio Studios and Collective Studios’ Historyverse today unveiled the global first teaser of Krishna, an upcoming theatrical feature directed by Manu Anand, at the NAB Show 2026 in Las Vegas. At the heart of Krishna lies a new cinematic pipeline developed by Galleri5, Collective Artists Network’s in-house AI platform, built on Microsoft Azure’s advanced AI and cloud capabilities. This collaboration brings together cutting-edge technology with Jio Studios’ scale, storytelling expertise, and commitment to creating globally resonant Indian content.

The film’s first look and Collective Artists Network’s AI platform were featured in Microsoft’s keynote at NAB, “Powering Intelligent Media; From AI Experimentation to Real-World Impact.” Collective was highlighted as a leading Frontier organization that is moving AI beyond experimentation into real, production-scale deployment in cinema. The technology is also featured in Microsoft’s NAB booth (West Hall, Booth W1731).

Krishna represents a departure from traditional VFX- or animation-led filmmaking. Instead, it is built on an AI-native production pipeline where technology is integrated into the core of the filmmaking process, from world-building and character systems to shot design and final output, while remaining guided by a director-led, cinematic approach to storytelling.

Even as the film explores scale and spectacle, there is a conscious emphasis on emotional authenticity, stillness, music, and performance, ensuring the story is felt as much as it is seen.

Powered by Galleri5’s proprietary workflows, the pipeline allows filmmakers to create large-format, theatrical content rooted in Indian history and culture, while expanding the boundaries of how films can be conceived and produced. Collective Artists Network runs its Galleri5 platform natively on Microsoft Azure, using Microsoft Foundry and advanced AI infrastructure to support end-to-end, production grade workflows across film, episodic, and advertising content. By operating in a secure, enterprise cloud environment, Galleri5 puts the power back in the hands of creators, allowing filmmakers to use AI in a way that meets their needs

Jyoti Deshpande, President – Jio Studios (Media & Content Business, Reliance Industries) said, “At Jio Studios, our endeavor has always been to take Indian stories to the world with scale, ambition, and authenticity. With Krishna, we are not only embracing cutting-edge AI-led filmmaking but also advancing our commitment to future-forward storytelling powered by world-class technology being built in India. At the same time, we see this as an opportunity to democratize these powerful tools making them more accessible, intuitive, and cost-effective for storytellers. Our focus is to empower creators to fully realize their vision, amplify diverse creative voices, and craft stories that connect emotionally with audiences.”

Speaking at the showcase, Vijay Subramaniam, Founder & Group CEO, Collective Artists Network, said, “Krishna is not just about rethinking how films are built, but also about where these stories can go. We’re using technology being developed here in India to take our culture and history to a global audience, at a scale that wasn’t possible earlier. For us, this is a long-term priority, building stories that are rooted in who we are, but can travel anywhere in the world.”

“The media industry has reached a clear inflection point, where AI is no longer about experimentation, but about delivering real impact at production scale for creators. Through this collaboration, Microsoft is helping Collective Artists Network enable the end-to-end flow of production outcomes, transform the creative process, and enhance process efficiencies,” said Silvia Candiani, Vice President, Telco, Media & Entertainment, Gaming, Microsoft. “By building AInative creative systems on Microsoft Azure, Collective exemplifies how storytellers can unlock new formats, move faster, and realize a true return on intelligence, while keeping human creativity at the center.”

Krishna is part of Historyverse, Collective Studios’ growing slate of history and culture-driven IPs. Positioned as one of India’s most ambitious mythology-led slates, it draws from figures and traditions that have shaped the subcontinent over centuries, spanning stories inspired by Kali, Karna, and Durga to name a few. The already released Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh series serves as the starting point for Historyverse’s larger vision, demonstrating how historically rooted narratives can be approached for modern screens.

Jio Studios, the media and content arm of Reliance Industries Limited, is a market leader and India’s No.1 content studio, delivering some of the biggest cinematic successes in Indian cinema. Led by the blockbuster Dhurandhar franchise, including Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar The Revenge, the studio has set new global benchmarks, with the duology grossing over $330 million USD (Rs. 3,000 crores) worldwide and securing a place among the top 10 highest-grossing films globally in 2026.

Jio Studios also holds the distinction of producing the highest-grossing Hindi films in India for three consecutive years—Stree 2 (2024), Dhurandhar (2025), and Dhurandhar The Revenge (2026). Its diverse slate includes genre-defining hits and acclaimed titles like Laapataa Ladies, India’s official entry to Oscars 2025, Stree, Article 370, Shaitaan, Mrs. etc. In just eight years, it has built a formidable library of 160+ films and series, with over 60 titles winning 500+ awards. Guided by its ‘Make in India, Show the World’ vision, Jio Studios remains committed to empowering storytellers and taking compelling Indian narratives to global audiences through world-class, platform-agnostic entertainment.

The unveiling at NAB marks a significant milestone for Jio Studios and Collective Studios as they continue to explore how technology can expand the scope of storytelling, bringing together talent, content, and innovation to shape the future of cinema.

As Dhurandhar revives Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's magic, here's how his ICONIC creation featured in Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan-starrers just 9 months apart

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is back in sharp focus for Hindi film audiences, thanks to Dhurandhar The Revenge. The recently released film has revived not one but two compositions associated with the legendary singer – ‘Jaan Se Guzarte Hain’ and ‘Man Atkeya Beparwah De Naal’, making Nusrat saab’s timeless sound a talking point all over again. It has once again reminded audiences of the emotional power and spiritual pull that only Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s music could carry.

Interestingly, this renewed fascination also takes one back to an important chapter in Bollywood’s long relationship with Nusrat saab’s music. On April 18, 2026, Koyla completes 29 years, having originally been released on April 18, 1997. The Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit starrer featured the unforgettable ‘Saanson Ki Mala’, a film adaptation that brought Nusrat saab’s immortal composition into a dramatic mainstream Bollywood setting. Even today, the song remains one of the most haunting and distinctive musical moments in the film’s album.

What makes this even more fascinating is that Koyla wasn’t the first major Hindi film to tap into the magic of ‘Saanson Ki Mala’. 9 months earlier, the same composition had also been used in Jeet (1996), the Sunny Deol-Karisma Kapoor-Salman Khan starrer. In other words, before Shah Rukh Khan’s Koyla turned it into a widely remembered cinematic moment for an entire generation, the song had already made its way into a major Bollywood film vehicle led by Sunny Deol.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan already had a fan base in India and it became bigger with the song 'Afreen Afreen' from the album Sangam in 1996. He composed songs for two films – Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997) and Kachchhe Dhaage (1999), while also singing the cult track 'Dulhe Ka Sehra' from Dhadkan (2000).

As was the trend at that time, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was never credited for the recreations in Jeet or Koyla. Interestingly, ‘Saanson Ki Mala’ was recreated for the third time, in Yaariyan 2 (2023). This time, the legendary musician was duly credited.

EXCLUSIVE: Sunny Deol-starrer Gabru postponed; won’t release on May 8

Sunny Deol's stardom went on another level with the blockbuster success of Gadar 2 (2023). His next, Jaat (2025), also had a decent trend at the box office, proving that the success of Gadar 2 was not a fluke. The veteran star began 2026 on a rocking note with the Rs. 300 crore plus grosser, Border 2. As a result, expectations are tremendous for his next film, Gabru. The film was scheduled for release on May 8 and fans will have to wait a little more to experience the emotional drama as it has been pushed further ahead.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Gabru has been postponed and won’t arrive in cinemas on May 8. The makers plan to lock the new release date in a few days, after which they’ll make an official announcement.”

Earlier, Gabru was supposed to release on March 13 and was postponed to May 8, possibly because the holy month of Ramzan was going on and moreover, the much-awaited film, Dhurandhar The Revenge, was to arrive in cinemas 6 days later, on March 19.

Gabru is directed by Shashank Udapurkar and produced by Vishal Rana. In November 2025, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to break the news that Salman Khan has an entertaining and extended cameo. At that time, a source told us, “There was a requirement of a star and the makers knew that Salman Khan fit the bill completely. Salman was approached and he loved the part and its contribution to the film. He quietly shot the film more than a year ago and it has shaped up well. His cameo in Gabru is all heart. It is adorable and also highly entertaining. He has 3 scenes in total and hence, it’s an extended special appearance.”

Meanwhile, the May 8 slot is taken up by Aakhri Sawal and Dadi Ki Shaadi. The former stars Sanjay Dutt, Neetu Chandra, Namashi Chakraborty, Amit Sadh, Sameera Reddy and Tridha Choudhury while the former features Kapil Sharma, Neetu Kapoor and Sadia Khateeb.

It now remains to be seen when Gabru arrives in cinemas, as several significant mid-sized and big films are up for release from June to August. August will also see the release of Sunny Deol’s another much-awaited film, Lahore 1947. It is produced by Aamir Khan and is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Sunny’s other confirmed release in 2026 is Ramayana. It’ll release on Diwali and will present the actor as Lord Hanuman.

Actor Patralekhaa has strongly responded to body-shaming comments that surfaced after her recent appearance at a screening of Toaster. The actress, who has been receiving praise for her recent work and growing production ventures, took to social media to call out insensitive remarks made about her physical appearance and to remind people about the realities of postpartum recovery.

Patralekhaa recently starred in Phule, where she essayed the role of Savitribai Phule. Her performance earned appreciation from critics and audiences alike, with the actress also receiving multiple accolades for the role. Alongside her acting commitments, she has also stepped into production. Her banner recently made its debut with Toaster, which released on Netflix and has been garnering positive responses.

However, during a recent public appearance linked to the film, some online pages focused on her body rather than her work, prompting the actress to issue a candid response on Instagram Stories. Addressing the trolling directly, Patralekhaa wrote, “Pap pages! What's happened to me!? is that I have just given birth! Yes I have gained the weight, which seems like an unnatural phenomenon to you all. I have not sat and eaten a mountain, I just delivered a baby and produced two films simultaneously which are not easy jobs. If I could I would not be this way. But that's how my body has reacted to pregnancy. For God's sake please learn to be a little kind.”

Her statement quickly drew attention online, with many users praising her honesty and calling for greater sensitivity around postpartum changes and women’s health. The actress’ message also highlighted the pressure public figures often face regarding appearance, particularly after childbirth.

Patralekhaa and actor Rajkummar Rao, who were together for over a decade before marriage, tied the knot on November 15, 2021, in an intimate ceremony at The Oberoi Sukhvilas Spa Resort in Chandigarh. In July 2025, the couple announced they were expecting their first child through a joint social media post that read, “Baby on the way.”
