Welcome To The Jungle to have one of the WIDEST releases; distributor demands ALL shows in single screens, 3 shows per screen in 6+ screen multiplexes

The month of June is expected to end on a comic note thanks to the release of Welcome To The Jungle. It is arguably the biggest multi-starrer of Hindi cinema and hence, the excitement is expected to be tremendous. Accordingly, the distributing partner, Star Studio18, has gone all out with the release strategy.

As per the mail sent to the exhibitors, the distributor has asked for all shows in single-screen cinemas. In two-screen cinemas, they have asked for 7 or 8 shows, while they require 9 or 10 shows in three-screen cinemas. In 4-screen multiplexes, the requirement is 11 or 12 shows, while 13 or 14 shows are required in 5-screen plexes. For cinema halls with 6 screens, Welcome To The Jungle needs to be played in 15 or 16 shows. Finally, in multiplexes with more than 6 screens, the studio has asked them to play 3 shows of the comic caper per screen.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Welcome To The Jungle is a grand film meant for the big screen. Due to the humour quotient and sprawling star cast, the film should open with a bang and hence, the studio is intending for a wide release.”

It now remains to be seen whether the demand for all shows in single-screens and 7-8 shows in two-screen cinemas causes any issue, especially regarding the holdover releases. The trade source explained, “Cocktail 2 has a decent hold while Main Vaapas Aaunga refuses to slow down. Some Gujarati and Marathi releases have also put up fair numbers. Also, Hollywood superhero flick Supergirl and the much-awaited Punjabi film, Carry On Jatta 4, are up for release this Friday as well. These films will also require sufficient shows and hence, let’s see how things unfold in the next 48 hours.”

Welcome To The Jungle stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Farida Jalal, Johny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Aftab Shivdasani, Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma, Kiran Kumar, Zakir Hussain, Vindu Dara Singh, Urvashi Rautela, Hemant Pandey, Brijendra Kala, Feroze Khan (Arjun), Late Pankaj Dheer Ji, Puneet Issar, Sudesh Berry, Jeetu Verma, Vrihi Kodvara, Adityaa Singgh and Bhagya Bhanushali.

Nidhi Dutta unveils JP Films’ five-project slate: Border 3, General Harbaksh Singh biopic and more

Riding on the box office returns of Border 2, producer Nidhi Dutta has unveiled an ambitious five-title slate at JP Films, the banner founded by her father, filmmaker JP Dutta. The projects span military dramas, a war hero biopic, a digital series on her grandfather, and a treasure-hunt franchise rooted in Indian history and mythology. She revealed her plans during an interview with Variety India.

Border 3 and the military slate The most prominent title on the slate is Border 3, currently in early development in partnership with Bhushan Kumar. Dutta said the third instalment “represents our continued commitment to telling stories of bravery and national pride on the biggest possible canvas.”

Alongside the franchise, JP Films is also developing a biopic on war hero General Harbaksh Singh, who commanded the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1966. “The film aims to bring an important chapter of Indian military history to a new generation while telling the story of a man whose courage shaped history,” Dutta said.

The third military project is a contemporary Air Force drama set during and after Operation Sindoor, focused on the personal and emotional costs of service. “While it delivers scale and action, it is ultimately a deeply human story about duty, family, and sacrifice,” she said. A franchise and a family legacy Marking a different direction for the banner, Dutta is also developing a large-scale treasure-hunt action-adventure film conceived as the first entry in a three-part franchise. “We expect it to be among the first projects to move into production. It’s the first time I’ve written something like this and it’s a franchise film, so it will have two more parts,” she said.

Rounding out the slate is a long-form digital series on her grandfather, filmmaker OP Dutta, described by Nidhi as the studio’s most personal project. She said the series would tell a story about “perseverance, passion, family, and an unwavering belief in cinema despite immense challenges, and the journey of my family legacy.”

Dutta confirmed that production timelines are being finalised and that some titles from the slate are expected to begin shooting over the next couple of months, with individual announcements to follow.

Love & War set tragedy: Worker dies after alleged electric shock; Bhansali Productions offers Rs 40 lakhs as compensation

A tragic incident on the set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film Love & War has reignited concerns about safety standards and working conditions in the film industry. A 42-year-old carpenter, Chandradhari Yadav, lost his life while working on the film's set at Royal Pump Studio in Goregaon East, Mumbai, in the early hours of June 17.

According to representatives of the Film Studio Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union (FSSAMU), the incident occurred around 3 am. While the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, initial reports suggest that an electric shock caused by a possible short circuit may have led to the accident. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report for clarity.

Chandradhari Yadav is survived by his wife and two daughters. Following the incident, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and FSSAMU approached the producers of Love & War seeking financial assistance and support for the family.

The film's production house has reportedly offered Rs 40 lakhs as compensation to Yadav's family. However, union representatives say additional support is necessary to secure the future of his dependents. FWICE president B.N. Tiwari, according to a TOI report, said, “Apart from monetary compensation, we have requested the producer to take responsibility for the children's education. Workers are often made to work far beyond the prescribed eight to ten hours, and there is a limit to how much a person can physically stretch themselves at work.”

He added, “Once the post-mortem report comes, we will decide our next course of action. No matter how big the producer is or how big a film is being made, workers' lives cannot be put at risk.” Questions Over Working Hours FWICE honorary general secretary Ashok Dubey revealed that Yadav had reportedly been working continuously on the set for several days. “Chandradhari had been working continuously on the set for the past three days and had been on duty from 7 am until 3 am on the day of the incident. According to those present, he suffered an electric shock and was rushed to hospital, where he passed away,” Dubey said.

He further stated that the federation has requested employment opportunities for Yadav's wife within the production house. Ashoke Pandit, president of the Indian Film and Television Directors' Association (IFTDA) and chief advisor to FWICE, stressed the need for regular inspections and compliance checks.

“We have repeatedly urged producer bodies, studios and government authorities to conduct regular audits of sets, electrical wiring and cabling, considering that 150 to 200 workers are often present on a set,” he said.

“There are lives at stake and significant investments involved in building these sets. Mandatory compliance with fire, electrical and structural safety norms and comprehensive SOPs is the need of the hour.”

Toxic release date announced: Yash-starrer to arrive in cinemas on August 26, 2026

After months of speculation and multiple postponements, the makers of Toxic have finally announced a new release date for the highly anticipated film. Headlined by Yash and directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action drama is now slated to release in cinemas worldwide on August 26, 2026.

The announcement comes a day after the film's official social media handles sparked excitement among fans with a cryptic post that read, “Got plans for tomorrow?” The message immediately fuelled speculation that a major update was on the way. As expected, the makers have now confirmed the film's theatrical release date, bringing an end to months of uncertainty surrounding the project. A Long Journey to the Big Screen Toxic has witnessed an eventful release journey. When the film was first announced, it was scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 10, 2025. However, the ambitious scale of the production and an extensive shooting schedule resulted in delays.

Honour Thy Father...#Toxic In Cinemas Worldwide from 26-08-2026#ToxicTheMovie#ToxicOn26thAug@TheNameIsYash#Nayanthara @advani_kiara #TaraSutaria @humasqureshi @rukminitweets #GeetuMohandas @VishalMMishra #RajeevRavi #UjwalKulkarni #TPAbid #MohanBKere #SandeepSadashiva… pic.twitter.com/FMstz2MY4R — KVN Productions (@KvnProductions) June 21, 2026

Featuring a star-studded cast including Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Huma Qureshi, the film's principal photography reportedly continued longer than anticipated before wrapping up in October 2025. This prompted the makers to shift the release to March 19, 2026.

Just weeks before that release date, another postponement was announced. The producers cited geopolitical tensions in the Middle East as a major factor behind the decision. Given the importance of the region for Indian cinema's overseas business, the team chose to avoid a potentially affected international rollout.

The film was then moved to June 4, 2026, but another delay followed as the makers continued refining the project. Toxic Vs Eetha The newly announced August 26 release places Toxic just two days ahead of the release of Shraddha Kapoor's Eetha, which is scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 28, 2026.

While there are currently no other major releases announced for the period, the proximity of the two films could make the final week of August one of the most closely watched windows at the box office.

Delhi HC postpones hearing on Salman Khan's petition against Kala Hiran; next hearing on July 1

The Delhi High Court on Friday deferred the hearing on actor Salman Khan's plea seeking to restrain the filming, promotion, and release of the proposed film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy. The matter was postponed after counsel representing the filmmakers sought additional time to file a response to the application. The case was heard by the vacation bench of Justice Madhu Jain, which has now listed the matter before the roster bench on July 1.

Salman Khan has approached the court alleging that the proposed film and its promotional material are based on incidents linked to him and unlawfully exploit his personality and publicity rights.

Salman Khan seeks interim relief

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing on behalf of Salman Khan, urged the court to grant interim protection against the film's release and promotional activities. "He is producing a film on my life and tearing up the notice. He has no right to make a film of my life. I am seeking an interim injunction. The teaser has already been released," Sethi submitted before the court.

According to Khan's legal team, the actor's consent was never obtained for the project despite alleged references to events associated with his life and legal history. The filmmakers' counsel, however, requested time to place their response on record, stating that they had received a copy of the application only recently.

Dispute over alleged use of actor's identity

Salman Khan's plea centres on claims that Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy draws inspiration from the 1998 blackbuck hunting case, despite not explicitly naming the actor.

According to the application, promotional material released for the film contains visual and contextual references that make Khan identifiable to the public. The plea cites a poster released in May 2026 that allegedly depicts a character resembling the actor and wearing a bracelet similar to his well-known blue one.

The actor has also objected to promotional content that allegedly portrays the character carrying a firearm, arguing that such depictions create a misleading impression, particularly since he was acquitted in proceedings related to the Arms Act.

Concerns over pending legal matters

The application further argues that portions of the proposed film appear to be based on issues that are still pending before higher courts. According to Khan's legal team, the dissemination of such material could potentially influence public perception and affect ongoing legal proceedings.

During the hearing, Sethi also argued that the respondents should not be permitted to continue using Salman Khan's identity and public image for promotional purposes without authorization.

Filmmakers oppose interim injunction

The respondents opposed the grant of any interim relief.

During the proceedings, counsel representing the filmmakers informed the court that he had allegedly been receiving death threats and had filed an FIR in connection with the matter.

After hearing submissions from both sides, the court noted that counsel for the producer and director had only recently received the complete pleadings. It directed Salman Khan's legal team to provide the full set of documents to the respondents during the day.

The respondents in the case include producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, Akshay Pandey, and other individuals associated with the project.

1920 Franchise expands! Vikram Bhatt and Anand Pandit reunite for new horror film 1920: Cold Winter following the success of Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past

The popular 1920 horror franchise is set to return with a brand-new installment. Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and producer Anand Pandit have officially joined forces for 1920: Cold Winter, the latest chapter in the long-running supernatural series that has captivated horror fans for nearly two decades.

The announcement comes shortly after the success of Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past, which hit cinemas on June 12, 2026. Building on the momentum of that release, Bhatt and Pandit are now reviving one of Indian cinema’s most recognizable horror brands with what promises to be another spine-chilling tale.

1920: Cold Winter will be written and directed by Vikram Bhatt, who also helmed the franchise’s inaugural film, 1920 (2008), as well as 1921 (2018). The project will be produced by Anand Pandit, with Roopa Pandit and Rahul V Dubey serving as co-producers.

The collaboration marks yet another chapter in the successful professional association between Vikram Bhatt and Anand Pandit. The duo had earlier worked together on 1920: Horrors of the Heart (2023), which was directed by Krishna Bhatt and written by Mahesh Bhatt. The film featured Avika Gor and Randheer Rai in lead roles and expanded the franchise’s legacy for a new generation of audiences.

The 1920 franchise began in 2008 with the release of 1920, starring Adah Sharma and Rajniesh Duggall. The film revolved around a man who abandons his family and faith, only to discover that his wife has been possessed by a demonic force. The film’s success established the franchise as a major player in the horror genre.

It was followed by 1920: Evil Returns in 2012, starring Aftab Shivdasani, Sharad Kelkar, and Tia Bajpai, and later 1920 London: Fear Strikes Again in 2016, featuring Sharman Joshi and Meera Chopra. In 2018, 1921 brought a fresh supernatural story set in England, with Karan Kundrra and Zareen Khan leading the cast.

Shraddha Kapoor starrer Eetha teaser leaks online; fans react to actress going into labour scene just like Vithabai did in real life

Even before its official digital launch, the first glimpse of the upcoming film Eetha starring Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, has found its way online and is already creating a buzz among fans. As exclusively reported earlier by Bollywood Hungama, audiences were expected to get their first look at the film alongside the theatrical screenings of Cocktail 2. While the makers have not yet released the teaser on social media, a leaked clip recorded inside a cinema hall has surfaced online, offering a sneak peek into Shraddha’s much-anticipated transformation.

The viral clip features an intense sequence showcasing Shraddha Kapoor in the role of legendary Marathi Tamasha artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar. In the scene, the actress appears heavily pregnant and is seen going into labour while preparing for a stage performance. The background dialogues suggest that her character is engaged in a heated argument about returning to the stage immediately after childbirth to fulfil her commitment to perform.

The emotionally charged moment appears to highlight the resilience and dedication of the iconic folk artist, whose life story serves as the inspiration behind the film. Although only a brief portion of the teaser has leaked, it has already managed to leave a strong impression on viewers.

Videos circulating on social media indicate that the teaser was screened in theatres, where it received an enthusiastic response from audiences. Loud cheers, applause, and whistles could be heard as the glimpse unfolded on the big screen, with many fans praising Shraddha Kapoor’s intense screen presence and dramatic makeover.

The leak has only heightened anticipation for the film, which marks one of the most challenging roles of Shraddha’s career. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Eetha chronicles the life and journey of Vithabai Narayangaonkar, one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated Tamasha performers.

Apart from Shraddha Kapoor, the film also features Randeep Hooda and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles. The project has been generating considerable curiosity ever since its announcement, with audiences eager to see Shraddha step into a powerful biographical character.

Scheduled for a theatrical release on August 28, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festive period, Eetha is expected to be one of the major releases of the season. With the teaser already sparking conversations online, fans are now eagerly waiting for the makers to unveil the official first look across digital platforms.

Prahaar teaser out with Cocktail 2; Rajkummar Rao's intense avatar as Ujjwal Nikam leaves a strong impact; 26/11 Kasab trial, hard hitting dialogues takes centre stage

On June 16, Bollywood Hungama was among the first ones to inform readers that the teasers of Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story and Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha will be attached with Cocktail 2. The romcom released this Friday and as predicted, both the assets have indeed been hard-locked into the prints of the Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon-Rashmika Mandanna starrer. In this article, we’ll speak about the contents of the teaser of Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story.

As the title suggests, Prahaar - The Ujjwal Nikam Story is based on the life of prominent special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. Rajkummar Rao plays the titular role in the film, which also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher. It is directed by Avinash Arun, who has also helmed the upcoming web series Pritam And Pedro, starring Arshad Warsi and marking the debut of Rajkumar Hirani’s son, Vir Hirani. The web series will be out on Jio Hotstar two weeks from now, July 3, while Prahaar - The Ujjwal Nikam Story releases in cinemas on August 7. On June 8, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed its 1 minute and 57-second-long teaser with a U/A 16+ certificate.

The teaser makes it clear that although Ujjwal Nikam has fought several high-profile cases in his illustrious career, the film primarily focuses on one of the most discussed cases of his life - the trial of Ajmal Kasab, one of the terrorists involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Rajkummar Rao, as expected, appears to have delivered another transformative performance and gets completely into the skin of the character. His command over Marathi further adds authenticity to the portrayal. Another USP of the film are it's hard hitting dialogues. Hence, expect lots of claps in cinemas when you watch this film.

Interestingly, this marks the second time Rajkummar Rao will be seen playing a real-life lawyer after Shahid (2012). He already boasts an enviable body of work, and Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story looks set to be another notable addition to his filmography.

Vvan: Force of the Forest team heads for additional shoot to enhance climax and key sequences: Report

The makers of Vvan: Force of the Forest are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the upcoming folk thriller delivers a compelling cinematic experience. The team has reportedly planned a 10-day additional shoot to expand and enhance certain portions of the film, with particular focus on the climax and a few other crucial sequences.

According to a report by Mid-Day, the decision was taken after the makers reviewed the film's latest cut. While the team is satisfied with the overall progress of the project, they identified opportunities to further elevate some moments that play an important role in the story's emotional and dramatic payoff.

The report quoted a source associated with the film, saying, “The team simply felt there was scope to make some scenes bigger and more dramatic. When you're building a world as unique as Vvan, every detail matters.”

Eetha teaser attached with Cocktail 2; Shraddha Kapoor seen in an all-new avatar

On June 16, Bollywood Hungama was among the first to inform readers that the teasers of Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story and Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha would be attached to Cocktail 2. The romcom released this Friday and, as predicted, both assets have indeed been hard-locked into the prints of the Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon-Rashmika Mandanna starrer. In this article, we take a look at the Eetha teaser.

Eetha features Shraddha Kapoor in the role of legendary Marathi Tamasha artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar. Directed by Laxman Utekar of Chhaava (2025) fame, the film also stars Randeep Hooda and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub. It is scheduled to release in cinemas on August 28 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The teaser was passed by the CBFC with a U/A 13+ rating on June 17 and has a runtime of 2 minutes and 18 seconds.

The teaser opens with a crowd demanding a performance from a dancer named Eetha. One expects a typical massy entry for the lead actress. Instead, Shraddha Kapoor appears on screen in a completely unexpected manner.

Shraddha Kapoor has delivered several memorable performances over the years, but Eetha hints at a strikingly different avatar. Her dance and expressions stand out, and the teaser suggests that she has put in significant effort to portray the character authentically.

Despite the Maharashtrian flavour, Eetha has chances to open with a bang across the country. And needless to say, it'll be a riot in Maharashtra.

Salman Khan in talks with Farhan Akhtar for two-part historical epic: Report

Salman Khan's upcoming slate continues to expand. After signing an action-comedy with filmmaker duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., and while shooting for his untitled film with director Vamshi Paidipally and co-star Nayanthara, the superstar is now reportedly exploring another major project.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, Salman is currently in discussions with actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar for a large-scale historical action drama that could mark their first collaboration. A source close to the development told the publication, “Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar have been meeting regularly over the last month and discussing a potential collaboration. Salman has loved what he has heard so far and has shown keen interest in the project.”

The source added that conversations are still in the early stages. “The talks are still at an early stage and have not yet reached the paperwork phase, but both sides are excited about the possibility of coming together for the first time.” If the project moves forward, it could become one of the most ambitious films of Salman Khan's career. The proposed venture is reportedly being designed as a grand period action drama based on one of the most celebrated figures in Indian history.

Sharing more details about the scale of the film, the insider revealed, “It is a massive period action drama mounted on a grand scale. The idea is to tell the story across 2 films.”

The project is expected to be produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. If everything falls into place, production is likely to begin in the summer of 2027.

The development comes at a busy time for Salman Khan. The actor is currently filming an untitled project directed by Vamshi Paidipally, which features Nayanthara in a leading role. He is also expected to start work on Raj and DK's action-comedy entertainer around October 2026. The film reportedly revolves around a retiring superhero and promises a blend of action and humour.

Meanwhile, Salman’s much-discussed collaboration with director Apoorva Lakhia, titled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, remains in limbo with no official update on its production timeline.

Nag Ashwin BREAKS SILENCE on rumours of Alia Bhatt, Sai Pallavi joining Kalki 2898 AD sequel: “Everything is speculation”

The speculation surrounding Kalki 2898 AD's sequel continues to intensify following Deepika Padukone's exit from the franchise. While social media and trade circles have been buzzing with reports linking Alia Bhatt and Sai Pallavi to the project, director Nag Ashwin has now shared an important update on the matter.

The discussion began months after production house Vyjayanthi Movies officially announced that it would not be continuing its association with Deepika Padukone for the sequel. The statement drew attention for its reference to a lack of alignment, with the banner stating that it was "unable to find a partnership" and suggesting that a film of Kalki's scale required a greater level of commitment.

Soon after, speculation emerged regarding the future of Sumathi, Deepika's character in the film. Since Sumathi plays a crucial role in the Kalki universe, many fans questioned whether the character would be recast or written out altogether.

Addressing the issue during a conversation with Great Andhra, Nag Ashwin confirmed that Sumathi will continue to be an integral part of the story. "We need to announce who plays Sumathi character in Kalki 2. As of now everything is speculation only. Character will be there for sure which we can't remove as it's a very important character," the filmmaker said.

His statement effectively confirms that the role will remain in the sequel, while also making it clear that no official casting announcement has been made yet.

The uncertainty has fuelled two major theories among fans. One section believes Alia Bhatt could join the franchise in an entirely new role rather than replacing Deepika. Reports and online discussions have suggested that she could portray Goddess Vaishno Devi, a figure often associated with Kalki mythology and believed by some traditions to be a Chiranjeevi tasked with guiding and protecting Kalki.

Another theory links both Alia Bhatt and Sai Pallavi directly to the role of Sumathi. Since the character serves as the mother of Kalki and is central to the narrative, many reports have speculated that the makers may opt for a straightforward recasting.

However, Nag Ashwin's latest remarks indicate that all such reports remain unconfirmed at this stage.

The original Kalki 2898 AD featured Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in key roles. The film emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters and laid the foundation for a larger cinematic universe, making every casting development surrounding the sequel a subject of intense interest.

For now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement from Vyjayanthi Movies and Nag Ashwin. Until then, the identity of the actor who will portray Sumathi in Kalki 2 remains one of the industry's biggest mysteries.

Teasers of Rajkummar Rao's Prahaar - The Ujjwal Nikam Story and Shraddha Kapoor's Eetha expected to be attached with Cocktail 2

A few days are left for the release of Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, and excitement for the film is evident due to its casting, youthful flavour, franchise value and music. The excitement is expected to increase a few notches as it has come to light that the teasers of two highly awaited films may be attached with the prints of the romcom. Like Cocktail 2, both these films are produced by blockbuster producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films.

The first one is Prahaar - The Ujjwal Nikam Story. As the title suggests, it is based on the life of prominent special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.

Prahaar - The Ujjwal Nikam Story releases in cinemas on August 7. On June 8, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed its 1 minute and 57-second-long teaser with a U/A 16+ certificate.

The other teaser expected to be attached with Cocktail 2 is Eetha, starring Shraddha Kapoor in the role of Marathi Tamasha artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar. Directed by Laxman Utekar of Chhaava (2025) fame, it also stars Randeep Hooda and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub. The film will release in cinemas on August 28, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “In all probability, these two teasers will be shown with Cocktail 2, though the final call is yet to be taken. In the past, Maddock revealed the teaser of Bhool Chuk Maaf with Chhaava, the Shakti Shalini announcement asset with Thamma, Chhaava teaser with Stree 2, etc. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if audiences are treated with the promos for Prahaar - The Ujjwal Nikam Story and Eetha alongside Cocktail 2.”

An industry insider commented, “Both these upcoming films look promising. Rajkummar Rao is said to have done a stellar job as Ujjwal Nikam. Meanwhile, Shraddha Kapoor has essayed a powerful, author-backed role and will be seen in a never-before-seen avatar.”

Love & War cast gears up for grand song shoot with 200 dancers at Royal Palms: Report

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ambitious period drama Love & War is set to resume filming on June 18 after a brief production break. The upcoming schedule will bring lead actors Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal back together for one of the film's biggest sequences to date.

The project has been in the spotlight in recent months due to speculation surrounding its shooting schedule and release plans. However, Bhansali recently clarified that the film remains largely on track, with around 90 per cent of the principal photography already completed.

According to a report by Mid-Day, the next phase of filming will focus on an elaborate song sequence mounted on a massive scale. The sequence is expected to feature nearly 200 dancers along with the lead cast. A production insider told the publication, “It's being designed as a spectacle. It was originally to kick off on June 8, but is now starting on the 18th at Royal Palms.”

The song will reportedly be filmed over several days on a specially designed set. Preparations for the sequence have been underway for weeks, with choreography, costumes and production design being finalised well before the cameras begin rolling.

The source further revealed, “The choreography, costumes, and production design have been in preparation for weeks. The scale is enormous, even by Bhansali standards. Every frame has been meticulously storyboarded, which is why the shoot was pushed by two weeks.”

The upcoming schedule follows a temporary pause due to the lead actors' commitments to other projects. Ranbir Kapoor recently shifted his attention to Ramayana: Part Two, as director Nitesh Tiwari moves ahead with the next phase of the mythological franchise. Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal has been preparing for and filming Mahavatar, in which he will portray Lord Parashuram.

Earlier this year, reports suggested that the remaining portions of Love & War, particularly the climax, were facing scheduling challenges due to the stars' busy calendars. The latest schedule appears to mark the beginning of the film's final stretch.

Once filming is completed, the focus will shift to post-production, which is expected to be extensive given the film's scale and visual requirements. The makers have reportedly moved away from earlier release targets, including Christmas 2025, Eid 2026 and August 2026. The decision was taken to allow sufficient time for visual effects and post-production work.

Another factor influencing the release strategy is Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: Part One, which is expected to arrive in theatres in late 2026. To avoid a clash between two major Ranbir Kapoor releases, the team behind Love & War is now believed to be targeting a theatrical release in January 2027, possibly around the Republic Day holiday period.

OPINION: Everyone’s talking about Alpha and that might just be the BEST thing to happen to Bollywood

Ever since the teaser of Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, dropped online, it has become one of the most discussed Hindi films on social media. The reactions have been sharply divided. Some have applauded the makers for placing two women at the forefront of a slick action spectacle, while others have questioned whether Bollywood is ready for such a film. But perhaps that's precisely the point.

Whether the conversation is positive or critical, Alpha has managed to achieve something that many films struggle to do today—it has made people curious. In an era where indifference is a bigger threat than criticism, that is already a victory. More importantly, Alpha represents something Bollywood desperately needs: the courage to attempt something different.

For the Hindi film industry to thrive, it cannot survive on just one or two winning formulas. Every time a particular genre clicks, there's a temptation to flood theatres with similar films. While that may deliver occasional blockbusters, it rarely builds a healthy theatrical ecosystem. An industry as large as Bollywood needs variety to sustain itself. That is precisely why the trade is closely watching Alpha.

At its core, the film appears to be Bollywood's answer to the kind of high-octane, popcorn entertainers that franchises like Fast & Furious have mastered—stylish action, larger-than-life set pieces, adrenaline-pumping moments and pure theatrical entertainment. But unlike those films, Alpha brings a refreshing twist by placing women at the centre of the spectacle.

Will that translate into box office success? Nobody knows. But the attempt itself deserves appreciation.

The theatrical business has always flourished because it offered audiences choice. Family entertainers, romantic dramas, thrillers, comedies, horror films, historical epics, action spectacles and slice-of-life stories have all contributed to keeping cinema halls alive. When every Friday offers something different, audiences have a reason to keep coming back.

If every major release starts looking and feeling the same, theatre-going inevitably loses its excitement. That is why Alpha matters.

The film isn't merely introducing another action story. It is testing whether audiences are willing to embrace a commercial action entertainer led by women without treating it as a novelty. Alia Bhatt plays an assassin in a fictional, larger-than-life universe. Whether the execution works remains to be seen, but the premise certainly feels fresh within mainstream Hindi cinema. And freshness is exactly what Bollywood requires.

No film is a safe bet anymore. We've seen massive stars deliver underperformers, while modest films have emerged as surprise blockbusters. The traditional rules of box office success have become increasingly unpredictable. In such an environment, playing it safe isn't necessarily the safer option. Taking calculated creative risks may actually be the smarter business decision.

Credit must therefore go to Yash Raj Films for backing a project that doesn't simply recycle an already successful formula. Even if Alpha doesn't rewrite the rulebook overnight, it expands the industry's creative ambitions. Every film that challenges convention makes it easier for the next filmmaker to push boundaries even further.

History has repeatedly shown that today's risky idea often becomes tomorrow's accepted norm.

Audiences, too, have consistently rewarded novelty provided it comes wrapped in compelling storytelling and solid entertainment. They don't reject fresh ideas; they reject films that fail to engage them. Ultimately, that's what Alpha will be judged on. The online debate will continue. Opinions will remain divided. Social media will dissect every frame. But perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Bollywood is attempting something outside its comfort zone and that's something the industry should never stop doing.

The verdict, of course, will arrive only when audiences buy their tickets. We'll have the answer on July 3, when Alpha releases worldwide, exclusively in cinemas.

Kala Hiran row: Govind Namdev distances himself from film targeting Salman Khan; accuses producers of misleading him

Veteran actor Govind Namdev has publicly distanced himself from the controversial film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, claiming that he was misled about the nature of the project and would never have agreed to be associated with it had he known its actual premise. Speaking to Amar Ujala, the actor said he initially believed he was working on a film titled Sambhal. He later learned that another project titled Kala Hiran was being made, but was told that it would focus only on courtroom proceedings related to Salman Khan's blackbuck case.

Recalling his reaction after watching the teaser, Namdev said, "As soon as I watched the trailer, I was shaken to the core. I instantly understood that the project is completely different from what I was shot for. We were never told that a character resembling Salman Khan would be created and misrepresented in this manner in the film. The moment I saw the trailer, I felt like I had been kept in the dark and used. There is a world of difference between what I was told and what has actually been made."

The 71-year-old actor further explained that he had no knowledge of the storyline when he initially joined the project. "I was told that we were making a film named Sambhal. At that time, I had absolutely no idea that the story would later take a completely different direction," he said.

Namdev added that the filmmakers had assured him that his role was limited to a courtroom sequence based on documented legal proceedings. "I was informed that there is only a long courtroom scene, and that is all I had to do. It was also mentioned that nothing new was being added from our end. We were only supposed to show the audience what had happened in court. I felt that if only the things recorded on file were being shown, then there was nothing wrong with it, which is why I said yes," he stated.

The veteran actor also made it clear that he shares a cordial relationship with Salman Khan and would never knowingly participate in a project aimed at tarnishing the actor's image. He further clarified that he does not identify with any narrative linked to the Bishnoi community or gang references surrounding the case. "I cannot consider any Bishnoi gang as my ideal. I cannot even think of such a thing. I believed that I was only performing the courtroom portion. However, what has come to light now has made me uncomfortable as well," Namdev concluded.

The film has been at the center of a growing controversy due to its apparent similarities to Salman Khan and the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. While the makers have described the project as a work of fiction, the recently released teaser features a character named Ayaan Khan, portrayed by Kashif Iqbal Khan, whose appearance, mannerisms, clothing style, and accessories closely resemble those of the Bollywood superstar.

The controversy escalated further after Salman Khan and his legal team approached the Delhi High Court seeking an immediate and permanent stay on the film’s production, promotion, and release. The actor's team has argued that the film violates his personality and publicity rights while allegedly damaging his reputation by portraying an ongoing legal matter in a misleading manner. The court has since issued notices to the filmmakers seeking their response.

CBFC censors ‘sex’ and ‘f**k’ in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day

On June 10, Bollywood Hungama reported that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sprang a pleasant surprise by passing three crucial films of the week with zero cuts – Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Haunted – Echoes Of The Past and Backrooms. However, the sole exception was Disclosure Day. The film received its censor certificate at the eleventh hour and was required to make a few cuts.

In a dialogue in the first act, the word ‘sex’ was muted. It occurs in the scene where Daniel Kellner (Josh O'Connor) learns that his girlfriend, Jane (Eve Hewson), was a nun. When asked whether she still follows the same religious commitments, Jane replies in the negative, pointing out that they’ve already had sex. It is in this dialogue that the CBFC made a change.

The other word that got muted was ‘f**k’, and it occurred twice in the film. Once these changes were made, Disclosure Day was passed with a U/A 13+ certificate on June 11. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, was 145 minutes and 36 seconds. In other words, Disclosure Day is 2 hours, 25 minutes and 36 seconds long.

Disclosure Day is directed by Steven Spielberg, who reunites with screenwriter David Koepp. Both had earlier collaborated on Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), War Of The Worlds (2005) and Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008). This is also legendary composer John Williams’s 30th film with the popular filmmaker.

Disclosure Day stars Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo and Eve Hewson. It tells the story of a small-time Kansas City reporter and cybersecurity specialist, Daniel Kellner. Both don’t seem to know the other, but they meet under mysterious circumstances while the world is in chaos.

The sci-fi film opened at 27.6 million USD worldwide and is expected to have a weekend of around 94 million USD. In India, it opened in the range of Rs. 1.75 crores and Rs. 2 crores. The start is fair considering the niche genre and the competition from new and holdover releases.

BREAKING: Cocktail 2 passed with ‘A’ certificate; marks Kriti Sanon’s FIRST adult-rated film and Rashmika Mandanna’s second after Animal

The next two weeks are expected to be exciting for the film industry, with two keenly-awaited films gearing up for release – Cocktail 2 and Welcome To The Jungle. The former, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, is all set to arrive in cinemas on Friday, June 19, and has already generated tremendous buzz due to its franchise value, chartbuster music, youthful appeal and fresh casting.

The advance booking of Cocktail 2 opened at the stroke of midnight on June 14 and it has now come to light that the romcom has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an ‘A’ certificate. Moreover, the film’s runtime is said to be 150 minutes. In other words, Cocktail 2 is 2 hours and 30 minutes long.

With this, Cocktail 2 becomes the first-ever adult-rated film of Kriti Sanon’s 12-year career. For Rashmika Mandanna, it marks her second ‘A’-rated Hindi film after the blockbuster Animal (2023). As for Shahid Kapoor, this is the fifth adult-rated film of his career after Kaminey (2009), Udta Punjab (2016), Kabir Singh (2019) and O'Romeo (2026). Interestingly, O'Romeo was also his last release, which means that for the first time in his career, Shahid will have two consecutive adult-rated films.

Cocktail's first part, which released in 2012, starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and debutante Diana Penty. Like Cocktail 2, it was directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. However, unlike the sequel, the first installment had received a U/A certificate from the CBFC. It had a runtime of 146 minutes, and hence, it was four minutes shorter than Cocktail 2.

Sunny Deol vs Akshaye Khanna! Netflix unveils Ikka, a high-voltage courtroom thriller set for July 10 premiere

Netflix has officially announced Ikka, an upcoming courtroom thriller headlined by Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna. Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, the film is set to premiere on the streaming platform on July 10 and marks Sunny Deol’s first-ever Netflix original film.

The legal drama brings together Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna for a gripping face-off, reuniting the two actors on screen after decades. Set against the backdrop of a high-stakes courtroom battle, Ikka explores themes of justice, morality, family, and the consequences of choices made in the past.

At the heart of the story is a celebrated lawyer, played by Sunny Deol, who is compelled to defend a man from his past, portrayed by Akshaye Khanna. The unexpected return of this individual forces him to confront unresolved wounds while taking on a case that challenges his deepest convictions. As personal loyalties and professional responsibilities collide, the lawyer finds himself navigating a battle where every decision comes at a price.

The film also features acclaimed actors Tillotama Shome and Dia Mirza in significant roles. While Tillotama essays a determined public prosecutor committed to securing justice, Dia portrays a wife and mother striving to keep her family together amid growing uncertainty and emotional turmoil.

Speaking about the project, Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India said, “IKKA brings together everything audiences love about a great courtroom drama: high stakes, moral complexity and emotional conflict. Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, the film explores justice, truth and accountability through a gripping narrative that keeps audiences guessing until the very end, with layered characters, unexpected turns and moral questions that linger long after the verdict. The film also marks a landmark moment for us as Sunny Deol makes his Netflix film debut, returning to the courtroom as a lawyer more than three decades after his iconic turn in the genre. Joining him for an on-screen reunion, the immensely talented Akshaye Khanna makes for the perfect counterpart in what promises to be a riveting battle of wits. With Tillotama Shome and Dia Mirza in key roles, the film brings together exceptional talent in service of a story that is both deeply rooted in its context and universally resonant — the kind of storytelling we are proud to bring to audiences on Netflix.”

Produced by Alchemy Films, IKKA marks another collaboration between director Siddharth P. Malhotra and Netflix following the success of Maharaj. The filmmaker revealed that the project has been close to his heart for several years.

Speaking about the film, Siddharth P. Malhotra shared, “As a storyteller, I'm always looking for stories that challenge me emotionally and creatively, and IKKA has been one such journey. I've always been a huge fan of courtroom dramas, and this is a subject that has been incredibly close to my heart for many years. In fact, it was one of the first stories I ever wanted to bring to the screen. What drew me to IKKA was the opportunity to tell a courtroom story that focuses as much on personal relationships and emotional dilemmas as it does on the pursuit of justice. To finally tell this story with a cast of the calibre of Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Dia Mirza and Tillotama Shome feels truly special. Having Sunny Deol step into the role of a lawyer, a character space audience have so loved him in, alongside such phenomenal performers, felt like everything coming together at the right time. After the incredible journey of Maharaj, it has been wonderful to collaborate with Netflix once again on a film that is deeply emotional, character-driven and rooted in powerful storytelling.”

With impossible choices, shifting alliances, emotional conflicts, and a courtroom battle that extends far beyond legal arguments, Ikka promises an intense viewing experience. The film will begin streaming exclusively on Netflix from July 10.

Delhi High Court issues notices to ‘Kala Hiran’ makers after Salman Khan moves court over personality rights

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy after superstar Salman Khan approached the court seeking to stop the film’s release. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna directed notices to be served to producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, casting director Akshay Pandey, and other concerned parties. The matter has now been scheduled for further hearing on June 19.

Representing Salman Khan, advocate Nizam Pasha informed the court that a promotional poster released on May 29 featured a character bearing a strong resemblance to the actor. He pointed out that the individual in the poster was also shown wearing a bracelet similar to the one widely associated with Khan. According to the counsel, the film allegedly breaches a Delhi High Court order dated December 11, 2025, which safeguarded the actor’s personality rights.

During the proceedings, Pasha reiterated that the project was in violation of the earlier judicial order protecting Khan’s identity and associated attributes. The court was further informed that although the makers had not officially announced a release date for the film, its trailer was launched on Friday, despite earlier indications that it would be unveiled on June 20.

Referring to the legal issues connected to the blackbuck poaching case, Pasha stated before the court that the matters remain pending adjudication. He noted that four FIRs had been registered in connection with the case, adding that Khan had already been acquitted in three of them, while a Special Leave Petition (SLP) was pending in the remaining matter without any operative order being passed. The counsel argued that the filmmakers were attempting to commercially benefit from Khan’s identity and sought an injunction restraining the film’s release.

When the court sought clarification regarding the film’s release plans, Khan’s legal team submitted that no official release date had been declared by the producers.

In his plea, the actor asserted that the film’s promotional materials contained clear references to him. The application stated that the character showcased in the publicity content closely resembled Khan and was seen wearing a bracelet that is instantly recognizable as one of his most distinctive personal identifiers.

Khan has maintained that the unauthorized use of his likeness, image, and identifiable characteristics amounts to a violation of his personality rights and legal protections.

Salman Khan moves Delhi High Court against Kala Hiran makers; seeks halt over alleged violation of personality rights

A fresh legal controversy has emerged around the upcoming film Kala Hiran: Battle of Legacy, with Salman Khan reportedly approaching the Delhi High Court over concerns related to personality and publicity rights. The actor has sought legal intervention against the makers of the film, alleging that certain elements associated with the project draw parallels with his public image and ongoing legal matters.

The dispute began shortly after the release of the film’s first-look poster, which sparked widespread discussion on social media. Several users pointed out similarities between the character featured in the poster and Salman Khan, citing aspects such as the styling, posture, and the presence of a bracelet that many believed resembled the actor’s signature accessory.

According to reports, Salman Khan’s legal team has raised objections to these similarities and argued that no character in the film should be based on or appear to be inspired by him without authorization. The actor has reportedly moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights, which are designed to prevent the unauthorized commercial use of a public figure’s identity, image, or likeness.

The legal notice is also understood to have referenced the long-running blackbuck case involving the actor. Since the matter remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings, Khan’s legal representatives have reportedly argued that any cinematic portrayal drawing inspiration from the case could potentially influence public perception, affect the legal process, and harm the actor’s reputation and goodwill.

As part of the plea, the actor has reportedly sought an immediate stay on the production, release, and promotion of the film. This includes a request to restrain the makers from circulating promotional content such as posters, teasers, trailers, and other marketing material until the matter is resolved.

Meanwhile, producer Amit Jani has publicly responded to the controversy. Addressing the initial notice through social media, Jani maintained that the film is not based on Salman Khan. According to him, the project draws inspiration from the court proceedings surrounding the blackbuck case and the Bishnoi community rather than the actor himself.

Jani also shared a video statement in which he alleged that he had been receiving threats from individuals claiming to be Salman Khan fans. However, there has been no official response from the actor regarding these allegations.

Directed by Bharat S. Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani under the banner of Firefox Media Private Limited, Kala Hiran: Battle of Legacy now finds itself at the centre of a legal battle that could significantly impact its production and release plans. Industry observers will be closely watching the proceedings as the matter comes up before the Delhi High Court.

SHOCKING: Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry retitled Heer Sara after CBFC objection

The Patralekhaa and Maanvi Gagroo-starrer Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry was initially scheduled to release on May 29. Four days before its release, the makers announced that the film had been pushed to June 12. They also revealed that the film had been retitled Heer Sara.

Bollywood Hungama has learned that the delay and change in title happened due to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). A source told Bollywood Hungama, “A few scenes and themes didn’t seem acceptable to the CBFC’s Examining Committee, which viewed the film. The process took a while, due to which the makers decided to delay the film’s release by two weeks.”

The source further said, “Also, ‘Pondicherry’ was asked to be axed from the title. The CBFC members were of the opinion that the film has certain mature content, which should not be associated with the Union Territory.”

The cut list of Heer Sara mentions that the title of the film was modified. The makers were also told to delete a derogatory word in the second half of the film. Once the modifications were made, the CBFC passed Heer Sara with an ‘A’ certificate on May 29. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 99 minutes and 17 seconds. In other words, Heer Sara is 1 hour, 39 minutes and 17 seconds long.

Directed by Kartik Chaudhry, Heer Sara stars Patralekhaa and Maanvi Gagroo in lead roles, alongside Arif Zakaria, Shveta Salve and Nishank Verma in pivotal supporting parts. The film traces an emotional and transformative road journey of two women navigating personal struggles, societal expectations and emotional healing.

The CBFC diktat has raised eyebrows in the industry. An industry insider commented, “Films like The Kashmir Files (2022), The Kerala Story (2023), Udaipur Files (2025) and The Bengal Files (2025) were passed by the CBFC without the makers being asked to change their titles. Agra (2024) and Aligarh (2016) were also released with their original titles. Then why was a sweet, heartfelt film like Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry singled out and made to change its title?”
